BANGKOK, Feb 19 – Nearly 300 Thai tourists were rescued from snow-struck Kawaguchiko city, about 100 km southwest of Tokyo, the Thai embassy in Japan reported.
In its report to the Thai Foreign Ministry in Bangkok, the embassy said all 299 Thais were safe after leaving the city in Yamanashi prefecture in smaller vehicles.
Train and bus services have been suspended due to the snow and bad weather.
The Thai embassy in Tokyo recommended Thai tourists who must stay longer to reschedule their flights and inform the Japanese immigration bureau of their overstaying.
Those departing from Narita and Haneda airports were requested to report to the immigration bureau in Tokyo, while those leaving from Chubu airport in Aichi prefecture were required to report to Nagoya immigration officials.
Overstayed tourists in Sendai and Hokkaido must report to immigration officials in Senai and Sapporo respectively.
Thai tourists are allowed to stay in Japan for the maximum of 15 days without visa requirement.
