THAILAND EVENT: Join Us for the Grand “Ram Thawai Phra Phuttha Maha Thammaracha” Dance Ceremony in Phetchabun!

Experience a profound display of faith and unity at the first large-scale gathering of dancers in Phetchabun—featuring over 3,500 dancers—to honor Phra Phuttha Maha Thammaracha, the revered Buddha of healing and well-being. This momentous event will be held on Monday, September 30th, 2024 at the Phutthayan Phetchabura Park.

The Ram Thawai Phra Phuttha Maha Thammaracha dance ceremony was first organized in 2018 by Dr. Seksan Niyompheng, Mayor of Phetchabun, and has grown steadily each year, with more than 2,500 participants annually. The event was paused in 2021 due to the pandemic, when only 64 dancers participated, but it has since resumed and will be celebrating its 7th year in 2024.

Phra Phuttha Maha Thammaracha, also known as Phra Bhaishajyaguru Vaidurya Prabha, is a symbol of healing and hope for physical and mental well-being. Devotees believe in his power to alleviate suffering caused by illness and emotional distress, making him a spiritual anchor for the people of Phetchabun.

The dance costume, designed by Dr. Visan Khositthanon, Chairman of the Provincial Cultural Council, reflects the Ayutthaya era, when the statue was discovered. The white top represents the pure faith in the Buddha and Buddhism. The green sash symbolizes Phetchabun’s agricultural richness and its provincial color, while the brown loincloth signifies the tamarind tree bark, representing Phetchabun’s iconic sweet tamarind fruit.

The performance will feature two music versions: the original version used from 2018-2021, and a newer version introduced in 2022 that changes the final sequence each year to reflect new concepts. The music and choreography, led by Dr. Pooncharat Hemaburut and a team of performing arts teachers, beautifully blend traditional and contemporary styles, showcasing the elegance of Phetchabun’s cultural heritage.
