BANGKOK, 25 October 2013 A total of 47 provinces have been affected by flooding during the monsoon season, said the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department (DDPM).

According to DDPM Chief Chatchai Promlert, over 4 million residents in more than half of the country have been hit by floods. The widespread deluge has damaged over 30,000 homes and more than 3 million rai of agricultural land. 80 people have been killed during the floods.

19 provinces across the country remain submerged under water. The worst hit provinces are Chachoengsao and Prachin Buri.

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has instructed the department to help manage the flow of water, carry out repair work on roads and highways, and assist flood victims in affected areas.

The department will also survey damage in inundated districts and will streamline assistance procedures in a bid to deliver speedy aid to residents.
