H.E. Mr. Russ Jalichandra, as the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, delivered an opening remarks for the 4th Thailand-Latin American Seminar “Flavours of Opportunities: Nourishing Trade and Investment between Thailand and Latin America on May 27, 2024.” The event, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the 9 Embassies of Latin American and the Caribbean countries in Bangkok, was held at Pullman Bangkok King Power.

The seminar was aimed at promoting trade and investment opportunities between Thailand and Latin America and the Caribbean, which aligns with the Ministry’s proactive economic diplomacy. The region represents a potential import and export market for Thailand, thanks to high purchasing power consumers, offering opportunities for Thai entrepreneurs to expand their markets, particularly in the food and agricultural sectors, which are key economic sectors for both Thailand and Latin America.

During the event, Ambassadors and Chargés d’ affaires of the Latin American and the Caribbean Embassies in Bangkok as well as private sectors shared with the participants their countries’ economic situation, trade and investment opportunities for both sides and challenges in conducting business between Thailand and Latin America and the Caribbean. In 2023, the total trade volume between Thailand and Latin American and the Caribbean was 17.195 billion USD, an increase of about 3% from the previous year.

The seminar attracted around 200 participants, both at the venue and via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Facebook Live platform. (MFA)
