BUNG KAN, 11 June 2013, 52 logs of Siamese Rosewood were seized as they were being smuggled out of the country by boat in Bung Khla District, Bung Kan Province.
The seizure was resulted from a combined effort of the Mekong Security Naval Force Nong Khai office, Bung Kan Pier & Police Department, the Natural Resources & Environmental Crime Suppression Division, and other related forces.
According to the report, the joint squad had planned an ambush in the Tha Som Hong Village in Bung Khla District, and was able to spot a truck dumping the logs near Mekong River bank before quickly driving away. Then, 15 men came out of their hiding place, starting to load the logs onto a boat. All of the suspects escaped when the authorities revealed themselves.
Officials seized a total of 52 Rosewood logs, each having an approximate measurement of 1.735 cubic meter with a street value of around 5 million baht. They also confiscated the vehicles used in the smuggling.
