BANGKOK, 18 June 2013 54 logs of teak have been confiscated in Kanchanaburi after 12 trees were cut down. The wood is believed to be worth more than a million baht.
According to officers, the arrest came after numerous complaints from residents in Amphoe Ta Maka, claiming teak trees had been felled by the order of the abbot of San Tor Temple.
After a quick inspection, the officers found 54 logs from the 12 felled teak trees. The officials believed that the trees were at least 50 years old and would cost around 1 million baht in the market.
The confiscated wood will be kept at the Forest Prevention and Reservation Unit, while further charges will be made against those perpetrators for the offence.
