BANGKOK, 5 September 2012  – The annual ASEAN Committee on Consumer Protection meeting has kicked off in Bangkok.

PM’s Office Minister Woravat Auapinyakul, on Tuesday, chaired the opening of the 6th meeting of the ASEAN Committee on Consumer Protection in Bangkok.

According to Mr. Woravat, the focus of the meeting is on the discussion of consumer protection and boosting collaboration on the issue, particularly in cases of consumers encountering problems when buying service or products.

He stated that, when the ASEAN Community (AC) is realized in 2015, both quality and sub-standard products will flow into Thailand. Therefore, the government is focusing on the compensation of consumers, who have been taken advantage of and must be protected.

The ASEAN Committee on Consumer Protection or ACCP was founded in 2007, with an objective of paving way for the AC integration. The ACCP is intended to help collaborate all ASEAN member countries in the areas of consumer protection, while sharing and exchanging experiences, news and information, as well as identifying solutions for problems reported in each country.
