Powerful 7.1-magnitude earthquake strikes Tonga, tsunami warning issued for surrounding areas.

BANGKOK, Thailand – According to international news reports on March 30, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) detected a powerful 7.1-magnitude earthquake in the Pacific Ocean, striking at a depth of 10 kilometers beneath the sea. The quake occurred approximately 90 kilometers southeast of Pangai, Tonga, at 12:18 UTC (19:18 Thailand time).

Following the earthquake, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a tsunami warning, cautioning that hazardous waves could impact coastal areas within a 300-kilometer radius from the epicenter.

Tonga, an island nation in the Pacific Ocean, is located more than 3,500 kilometers east of Australia. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation for further developments.
