BANGKOK, 14 August 2015 – The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives and seven state agencies have agreed to mobilize their efforts to address illegal fishing by signing a cooperative deal facilitating information exchange.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives is prepared to sign an agreement with the Marine Department, the Royal Thai Navy, the Royal Thai Police, the Department of Provincial Administration, the Department of Employment, the Department of Labor Protection and Welfare and the Department of Fisheries.

Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Petipong Pungbun Na Ayudhya will chair the agreement-signing ceremony set for August 17 at the Centara Grand Plaza Ladphrao, Bangkok.

Under the agreement, the seven agencies will be able to access the central database of fishing boats and labor via the system called Fishing Info, which records activities of operators registering with Port In – Port Out Monitoring Centers in all seafront provinces.

Related agencies believe that the deal will enable them to cope with illegal fishing in a more systematic manner.
