BANGKOK, 28 May 2014 – Acting chief of the Royal Thai Police, Police General Watcharaphon Prasanratchakit (วัชรพล ประสารราชกิจ), revealed on Tuesday he was looking to decentralize the structure of the police force.

The acting national police commissioner said a reform of the Royal Thai Police structure would allow regional police commanders greater authority to manage personnel, making decisions and implement budgets without waiting for a decision from the Royal Thai Police commissioner. He believed such adjustment would allow the police to better service the public.

According to the acting police chief, he needs to study the legalities associated with effecting such a reform. He stressed, however, that this idea was his response to the public call for a ‘police force for the people’.
