BANGKOK, 27 December 2013 – The State Railway of Thailand is providing an additional 27 no-fare trains to accommodate passengers traveling during the New Year’s holiday.
SRT Governor Praphat Chongsa-nguan revealed on Thursday that the SRT expects up to 900,000 passengers to use the train service to commute during the New Year’s holiday period, between December 27 and January 3. Because of the expected influx, the SRT will be providing 27 additional free trains for the northern and northeastern routes. It will also add extra coaches to the normally-scheduled 242 trains, to ensure that no passengers are left behind.
Mr. Praphat said trains can now travel faster on the northern railway that has recently undergone maintenance.
