BANGKOK, 28 July 2015 – Permanent Secretary for Agriculture and Cooperatives Chawalit Chookhachon has pointed out that labor problems were the main reason why the U.S. put Thailand in Tier 3 in its TIP Report. He confirmed the government’s solutions to human trafficking and strict fishery regulations had made continuous progress.
The official on Tuesday said the Thai Fishery Department maintained continuous efforts and talks on the issue of human trafficking in the fishing sector with the EU. As for nature conservation measures, Mr. Chawalit said Thailand would continue to enforce the measures which had contributed to an increase in the amount of marine animals in Thailand.
The U.S. Department of State officially released the 2015 TIP Report on 27 July 2015. Thailand has been kept on Tier 3, the lowest ranking, along with 22 other countries.
