Algerian hacker arrested by Thai police

BAGNKOK, 8 January 2013  An Algerian hacker wanted by the US government for hacking into banks’ websites and taking millions of US dollars has been arrested by the Thai police. 

Immigration Police Chief Lt. Gen. Panu Kerdlarppol said after the arrest that Mr. Hamza Bendelladj, an Algerian hacker, had been on the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s ‘ Wanted list’ for over 3 years. He is a cybercrime suspect who is believed to have taken tens of millions of dollars from 217 private bank accounts around the world.

The 24 year-old Hamza was arrested while traveling through Thailand, heading for Egypt. 2 laptops, 1 tablet, and 1 satellite phone were confiscated.

According to Lt.Gen Panu, the hacker will be extradited to the State of Georgia, U.S.A., where his arrest warrant was issued more than three years ago.
