SAMUT PRAKAN, Thailand – A heated confrontation broke out between a food delivery rider and a street vendor after the rider’s order was delayed and seemingly skipped over, Oct 28. The altercation turned physical, leaving both parties injured.
The incident occurred outside a rice porridge shop at the entrance of Soi Municipal Bang Pu 70, in the Tai Ban Mai subdistrict of Samut Prakan’s Muang district. Medics treated 46-year-old Jaras, the shop owner, and 42-year-old Kriangsak, the rider, who both sustained head injuries before being taken to Samut Prakan Hospital. Reports suggest that Kriangsak had been waiting nearly an hour for his customer’s order when he noticed another customer, who arrived later, being served first. Upset by the delay and what appeared to be queue-jumping, Kriangsak confronted the vendor, leading to a verbal argument.
The argument intensified when Kriangsak allegedly used offensive language, which enraged Jaras’s husband. He reportedly attempted to hit Kriangsak with a ladle, but Kriangsak managed to dodge and retaliated, resulting in a scuffle that left both injured.
Following the incident, Kriangsak filed a police report against the vendor. Displaying a cut on his left finger and bruises on his back, he explained that he had waited from 5:13 p.m. to 6:05 p.m. before asking about the delay. According to Kriangsak, the vendor responded dismissively, saying she was serving by queue. Frustrated, he claims he muttered a few choice words as he walked back to his motorcycle.
Moments later, he was allegedly hit in the back by the vendor’s husband wielding a spatula, though he shielded himself with his helmet. Another woman, identified as a friend of the vendor, reportedly tried to pull him back, leading to a chaotic brawl that required a bystander to step in to break it up.
