Another earthquake strikes Chiang Rai

CHIANG RAI, 21 August 2014  – The Seismology Office of the Meteorological Department reports that an earth tremor measuring 2.5 on the Richter scale has been recorded in Mae Lao district of Chiang Rai province.

The tremor occurred at 5.19 a.m. today at a depth of 7 kilometers. There were no reports of damage or casualties.

Yesterday a 3.1-magnitude earthquake was reported in the same district. It was recorded at 8.36 a.m.

According to statistics from the Seismology Office, minor quakes have been recorded in Mae Lao and Mae Suay districts of Chiang Rai province nearly everyday recently. Chiang Rai is one of the provinces situated on fault lines in the North.
