Thailand has been working with China, Myanmar, and other regional partners over the past year to strengthen cooperation against cross-border crime.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand, Myanmar, and China have reaffirmed their commitment to tackling telecommunications fraud and online scams through enhanced law enforcement cooperation and intelligence sharing. Foreign ministers and senior security officials from the three nations met in Bangkok on February 28 to discuss cross-border measures against criminal syndicates. The talks, chaired by Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa, were centered on strengthening coordination to improve security and protect citizens in the region.



The meeting, also attended by Aung Kyaw Kyaw, Myanmar’s Deputy Union Minister of Home Affairs, and Liu Zhongyi, Assistant Minister of Public Security of the People’s Republic of China, set out a plan to step up efforts against scam networks that have exploited enforcement gaps across multiple countries.The three governments agreed to enhance intelligence-sharing mechanisms and collaborate more closely with neighboring nations to combat transnational crime. Thai officials confirmed that cooperation will continue under an expanded coordination framework to ensure a systematic approach to dismantling fraud operations.

Discussions also addressed the repatriation of Chinese nationals from Myanmar through Thailand. The three sides agreed that returns should be pre-arranged and carried out in an orderly manner to minimize disruptions in border areas. Thailand reaffirmed its support for the process while ensuring that all actions comply with national laws and international humanitarian standards. The three governments reached an agreement in principle to resume repatriations once all preparations are complete.
