BANGKOK, Thailand – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul has chaired a high-level meeting to assess security measures in Thailand’s southern border provinces following recent violent attacks. The meeting, attended by senior officials and provincial leaders, reviewed the situation in Narathiwat, Pattani, Yala, Songkhla, and Satun. Authorities discussed response efforts and strategies to strengthen public safety in the region.

The attacks on March 8, which involved coordinated bombings and gunfire, targeted government personnel and civilians, including those attending Ramadan prayers. The violence has prompted calls for increased security operations to prevent further incidents and ensure the safety of local communities. Officials were instructed to boost morale among security forces, engage with affected residents, and reinforce intelligence gathering.

Anutin directed provincial governors and district chiefs to enhance coordination with security agencies, including the Fourth Army Region Command. He stressed the need for clear task assignments within local administrations and improved training for the Volunteer Defense Corps to strengthen response capabilities. Efforts to expand local intelligence networks and improve surveillance were also discussed.

Immediate and long-term assistance for victims was another priority, with provincial authorities tasked with providing emergency relief and ongoing support. The Ministry of Interior pledged full financial and logistical backing to ensure affected communities receive the necessary aid. Measures to prevent further attacks and monitor potential threats will be reinforced across all districts.

According to Anutin, security agencies will continue working closely with local leaders to enhance vigilance and coordinate resources to protect both civilians and government personnel. The situation remains under close observation, with further reinforcements planned as required. (NNT)
