BANGKOK, 25 January 2014 Army Chief Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha has called for all press agencies to help promote peace and unity in the nation by avoiding taking sides in the current political standoff.
General Prayuth, during his visit the Royal Thai Army-owned Channel 5, assured all sides that the military’s stance was to always protect the people and the nation, urging members of the media to do the same by reporting facts and avoiding news that would instigate or create violence as well as looking ahead to promote peace and unity among Thais. According to him, the media has a lot of influence on the people; therefore, all press agencies should keep in mind that they are also responsible for the future of Thailand.
In order not to further stir up the current situation, the army chief told all military personnel to be impartial at all times for the maximum benefit of the nation as a whole.
