Army helps provide safety for public on New Year holiday

BANGKOK- Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Army Gen.Theerachai Nakvanich has instructed army officers to step up measures to ensure public safety during the New Year holiday.

The army chief said units under the army was cooperating with the Ministry of Public Health and other relevant units in ensuring security and facilitating New Year revelers. He stressed that they should not cause trouble to other people and those who drank should not drive.

Gen.Theerachai also called on the public to sympathize with the officers who were working non-stop during the holiday season.

Meanwhile, Secretary-General of the National Institute for Emergency Medicine M.D.Anucha Setsathian said the institute and the Ministry of Public Health had identified road accident-prone areas in each province. More road signs and lights had been installed in the areas in an effort to reduce road accidents.

The secretary-general urged people not to make prank calls to emergency services. Offenders are subject to legal action.
