BANGKOK, 7 January 2014 Military officials say there will be movement of troops and military equipment on Wednesday, as the Royal Thai Army prepares to host its Children’s Day activities at 2 locations in Bangkok.

Children’s Day activities will be hosted by the Army at the 2nd Cavalry Division in Sanam Pao and at the Army headquarters in Lak Si. Officials asserted the movement of troops had been scheduled a long time in advance and had no correlation to political motives.

According to the Army, troops and equipment will be arriving in Bangkok from other provinces as well, as part of the military parade on the occasion of Royal Thai Armed Forces Day on January 18.

Government officials said there could be some problems with the Children’s Day event planned at Government House, as protesters there have not yet agreed to open all routes into the Government House compound. Deputy secretary-general to the prime minister, Pol. Maj. Gen. Thawat Bunfueng, said the government would ask the protesters again to allow access by all routes, although it was becoming increasingly likely that the Children’s Day event at Government House will be called off due to concerns over the safety of the children and other event goers.
