ASEAN Day on Disaster Management 2013 targeted for the handicapped

BANGKOK, 14th October 2013 ASEAN Day on Disaster Management, ADDM 2013, was held to raise public knowledge, especially among the handicapped, on the correct information and procedures in dealing with natural disasters. 

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, in cooperation with the Thai Red Cross Society and a network of civil society organizations, organized the event on the occasion of the UN’s International Day on Disaster Reduction. It is held annually throughout the ASEAN region, featuring exhibitions, discussions and disaster management demonstrations.

The aim is to inform and pass on knowledge on disaster management. The target this year is the disabled group, who are at a higher risk and impact at times of disasters.

M.L. Panadda Diskul, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Interior presided over the opening ceremony for the ADDM 2013 at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre. The event was also attended by representatives from world organizations such as the International Red Cross, the United Nations and fellow ASEAN countries.
