AYUTTHAYA, Sept 25 – The developer of the Saha Rattana Nakhon industrial estate in this old capital, 80 km north of Bangkok, is confident that the complex will not be flooded this year.

The industrial estate was completely inundated in the massive flooding in 2011.

Prapapan Rattakarn, Saha Rattana Nakhon acting managing director, said the water levels at three major dams – Chao Phraya, Pasak Cholasit and Rama VI – remained not too high.

The Rural Roads Department has built a 32.50 km road 6.5 metres above sea level as an outer protection for Nakhon Luang district. Inside the barrier there are the Saha Rattana Nakhon industrial estate, some 2,000 homes and rice fields.

Closer to the industrial estate, a 6.5-metre high dyke, with a 15-metre-wide base, was constructed around the 900-rai complex.

A Bt17 million budget has been allocated for the construction of the six kilometre dyke while the remaining one kilometre section will not

be completed until January.

Thirty major industrial plants are currently located at the Saha Rattana Nakhon estate.
