PATTANI, 21 November 2013 Security in the Deep South of Thailand has been tightened for the upcoming holiday season, especially in seven business hubs to prevent any possible assault from insurgents.

According to Internal Security Operations Command Region 4 Forward Command spokesman Col Pramote Prom-in, more stringent measures would guarantee safety for local commuters and those who want to participate in the New Year celebration.

Yala, Betong, Pattani, Narathiwas, Takbai, Sungai-golok and Hadyai where major event will be held are under special monitoring policy.

Authorities have explained measures and procedures at check points on highways and roads to locals. All services such as resting spots for tired drivers are also put in place.

Pramote expressed hope that, with those stringent measures in place, there would be no violence in the four southern provinces.
