LAMPANG, Thailand –– Authorities are working to determine the cause of a bus fire in Koh Kha District, Lampang Province. The bus, carrying 40 passengers, was en route to Chiang Mai when the incident occurred, December 30. All passengers managed to escape safely, with no injuries reported.
The fire broke out around 9:00 PM near kilometer marker 672 on the inbound road to Lampang in Na Saeng Subdistrict, Koh Kha District. According to the bus driver, Mr. Kriengkrai, smoke and flames were first noticed coming from the engine, accompanied by an illuminated engine warning light. The driver immediately pulled over to the side of the road, but the fire quickly spread from the rear engine compartment to the second floor of the double-decker bus.
Passengers fled the bus in time, resulting in no casualties or injuries. Firefighters and water trucks, totaling more than five vehicles, were dispatched to the scene. It took approximately 20 minutes to extinguish the fire.
Highway police and Koh Kha District police have begun an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire. Authorities are also interviewing the driver to gather more details about the incident. (TNA)
