Asset World Corp Public Company Limited (AWC) has partnered with IHG Hotels and Resorts to launch the five-star InterContinental Chiang Mai The Mae Ping, which is conceptualised as Thailand’s first living museum hotel to celebrate the glorious culture and traditions of Lanna heritage.

Located in the Chang Khlan area in the heart of Chiang Mai – the largest city in Northern Thailand – the hotel is surrounded by various tourist attractions from ancient temples to vibrant local markets. Just 20 minutes from Chiang Mai International Airport, the hotel’s location is where AWC plans to develop the ‘Lannatique’ mixed development project that will consist of art and culture villages, four leading hotels, and other properties.

Ms. Suladda Sarutilavan, Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Chiang Mai Office, said “The opening of the InterContinental Chiang Mai The Mae Ping will help drive demand for quality travellers to Chiang Mai and shape the supply of world-class sustainable hotels in the city. The living museum model, which allows travellers to experience the cultural and cherished timeless legacies of Lanna, also aligns with TAT’s focus on showcasing Thailand’s culture and soft-power foundations. The hotel will create incredible values and elevate Chiang Mai as one of the key sustainable tourism destinations in Thailand.”

The InterContinental Chiang Mai The Mae Ping came to life after a full renovation of the Imperial Mae Ping Hotel – the first hotel ever in the TCC Group’s hotel portfolio and one of the best hotels in Chiang Mai that hosted many famous guests from Thailand and around the world.

The hotel supports AWC’s GROWTH-LED strategy to increase its operating assets while expanding and diversifying its hospitality and lifestyle portfolio by developing quality assets in prime locations.

Mrs. Wallapa Traisorat, AWC Chief Executive Officer and President, said “We are very excited to launch the first InterContinental in Northern Thailand. We developed the InterContinental Chiang Mai The Mae Ping to be a unique luxury hotel and the first in Thailand to use the living museum model.”

The living museum model offers a creative online experience for guests to enjoy and learn about the enriched cultural, spiritual, and artistic legacy of the Lanna heritage through innovative augmented reality or AR interactive technology to create virtual content about the hotel’s design and decoration.

With AWC’s vision of ‘Building a Better Future’ and its commitment to sustainable development, the InterContinental Chiang Mai The Mae Ping is the first hotel in Chiang Mai to receive pre-certified LEED for building design and construction and pre-certified WELL to create long-term sustainable values for all stakeholders and surrounding communities, as well as strengthen Chiang Mai as a global sustainable tourism destination.

Mr. Rajit Sukumaran, Managing Director, South East Asia and Korea, IHG, said “With our shared vision and long-term partnership with AWC, we are delighted to co-create this property and bring the InterContinental brand to Chiang Mai. We are excited to launch this hotel that tells the stories and demonstrate the spirit of Lanna through sophisticated and elegant architecture and gorgeous interior design. The hotel will deliver unique and memorable experiences for our guests and elevate the sustainable growth of Thailand’s hospitality industry.”

Since 2020, AWC and IHG have signed over 1,200 rooms across six properties in Thailand.

The InterContinental Chiang Mai The Mae Ping offers 240 rooms in phase one with luxurious rooms and suites. Guests can experience the timeless legacies and beauty of Lanna’s golden heritage through the living museum that offers a new creative way to experience Lanna art and culture, thus creating a memorable stay through art pieces that reflect Lanna’s history and mythology in the arts, culture, and way of life.

Facilities include the Kam Lobby Lounge, Gad Lanna all-day dining venue, HONG’s Chinese Restaurant and Sky Bar, a 616 sq. m. ballroom, and various sized meeting rooms, a Kids Club, spa and wellness centre, a gym, and a swimming pool.
