Bang Phae giant freshwater prawn in Ratchaburi recognized as GI product

Currently, there are over 1,122 farmers cultivating Bang Phae giant freshwater prawn, generating an annual income of over 2,569 million baht per year.

The Department of Intellectual Property has recently registered “Bang Phae giant freshwater prawn” as a geographical indication (GI) product, indicating its geographical significance. It is ranked fifth among GI products in Ratchaburi province. It is extensively farmed in Bang Phae, Damnoen Saduak, and Photharam districts, Ratchaburi province. Currently, there are over 1,122 farmers cultivating Bang Phae giant freshwater prawn, generating an annual income of over 2,569 million baht per year.



Prior to this, there were four GI products registered in Ratchaburi province, namely Ratchaburi sweet young coconuts, Ban Kha pineapples, Ratchaburi dragon jars, and preserved radish of Photharam. (PRD)
