BANGKOK, Thailand – The Bangkok Air Quality Data Center reported a moderate air quality level in the city on the morning of February 17, with the average PM 2.5 concentration at 34.9 µg/m³, classified as “yellow” or moderate. However, 13 areas were found to have PM 2.5 levels exceeding the safety standard, falling into the “orange” category, which indicates that the air quality is starting to have a health impact.

Health Advisory: For the general public in orange zones, it is recommended to wear a PM 2.5 protective mask whenever going outside. Outdoor activities or exercises that require strenuous effort should be limited, and individuals should monitor for symptoms such as coughing, difficulty breathing, and eye irritation.

For at-risk groups, including the elderly, children, and those with pre-existing health conditions, it is crucial to use a PM 2.5 mask and avoid strenuous outdoor activities. If unusual symptoms occur, individuals should follow their doctor’s advice and seek medical attention immediately.

The PM 2.5 concentration was measured at levels between 27.4 and 44.8 µg/m³ in the 13 affected areas, exceeding the safety standard of 37.5 µg/m³. The air quality is expected to improve slightly between February 17-20, as the air ventilation remains “good” in most areas, with the potential for light rain and strong winds expected on February 17.

Additionally, NASA satellites reported a heat source in the Lat Krabang district on February 16, which was due to a grass fire, now extinguished.
