Bangkok – Bangkok authorities have begun drafting measures to deal with water shortages in the capital’s central and southern regions.
Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) Deputy Permanent Secretary, Chakkaphan Piew-ngam, recently called a meeting to prepare authorities to deal with a drought situation in the capital’s central and southern areas. The meeting was held between BMA offices and district offices and focused on updating all involved on the current situation and forecasts of the drought’s development. The meeting also drafted response measures to aid citizens.
The deputy permanent secretary stated that water shortages in Bangkok affect residents in 6 main ways; impeding farming, impeding daily life, causing subsidence, allowing for brush fires, allowing for water reserves to be contaminated and allowing for associated diseases.
Relevant district offices have been tasked with anticipating the severity of the drought in their area and drafting appropriate plans, which are to be submitted to the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation this week. They have all been empowered to enact their response measures immediately.
