BANGKOK – After the explosion of a transport boat along Bangkok’s Khlong Saen Saep canal, authorities have called for a switch from gas to diesel to restore public confidence.
On March 5th, a transport boat exploded while docking at Wat Thepleela Pier on Khlong Saen Saep, injuring several residents. Surveys conducted earlier on February 8 have indicated thin traffic at the pier, possibly due to a lack of public confidence in its safety measures.
However, the head of Wat Thepleela Pier, Thanapong Waitayakul, has argued that nearby residents continue to use the boat service, particularly between 6:00am to 8:30pm.
Mr Thanapong affirmed that 25 boats have replaced their natural gas tanks with diesel systems, according to orders from the Marine Department.
