BANGKOK, 22 September 2013 The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has organized activities under the Bangkok Car Free Day campaign on Sunday September 22nd to promote commuting via public transport.
The Car Free Day events was held under the theme “Sharing the Road” in a bid to encourage the use of public transport or bicycles instead of driving. The overall goal is to reduce air pollution and traffic congestion. The activities included a cycling parade, historical tours around Rattanakosin Island, exhibitions and stage performances.
Nearly 20,000 bicycles were released to campaign against the use of personal cars. Cyclists rode from Sanam Luang to CentralWorld and the group then formed into a Thai flag. Activities and exhibitions were also organized to promote bicycle riding among the general public.
Meanwhile in Lopburi, the provincial governor presided over the release of bicycle squat to promote anti-global-warming campaign and raise awareness about the environment. The event also promoted bicycle as a form of exercise for good health.
