CHUMPHON, Thailand – Severe flooding on Highway 41 in Chumphon’s Phrathat Sawi area has rendered the route impassable for small vehicles. According to Radio Thailand Chumphon Office, the disruption, reported in the afternoon (Dec 15), has prompted authorities to establish detours for southbound and northbound traffic (approximately 207 kilometers in each direction) to maintain safety and flow along the highway.
For Southbound Traffic:
Drivers are advised to take the following detour:
Exit Highway 41 by turning right at Pathom Phon Intersection.
Continue onto Highway 4, heading toward Ranong province.
At the Ratchakrud Intersection, turn left onto Highway 4006.
Proceed to the Wang Tako Intersection.
Turn right onto Highway 41, which will reconnect to the southern provinces.
For Northbound Traffic (towards Bangkok):
Drivers are advised to take the following detour:
Exit Highway 41 by turning left at Wang Tako Intersection.
Continue onto Highway 4006, heading toward the Ratchakrud Intersection.
At the Ratchakrud Intersection, turn right onto Highway 4 and proceed toward Ranong province.
Continue traveling to Pathom Phon Intersection to rejoin Highway 41 for the route towards Bangkok.
Drivers are advised to exercise caution when traveling on the detour routes and stay informed through local updates and advisories.
State Railway of Thailand Suspends and Adjusts Southern Train Services Due to Flooding
The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has suspended 14 train services and adjusted the routes of 12 others on the southern line due to severe flooding in Chumphon and Surat Thani provinces, which has rendered the tracks between Wisai and Sawi stations unsafe.
Affected services include special express, express, rapid, ordinary, local, and freight trains, with route changes primarily limiting operations to Chumphon or Surat Thani. Passengers holding tickets for impacted routes can request a full refund at any train station nationwide.
