BANGKOK, Thailand – Governor Chadchart Sittipunt welcomed British Ambassador HE Mr. Mark Gooding OBE and his delegation to the Amarin Room at Bangkok City Hall on November 20 to discuss collaborative efforts on sustainable low-carbon transport under the UK Partnering for Accelerated Climate Transitions (UK PACT) program.

Key Areas of Discussion
The meeting focused on three main priorities:

  1. Transit-Oriented Development (TOD): Enhancing urban development around transport hubs to create high-quality, livable communities.
  2. Traffic Management Policies: Introducing measures like congestion charges to improve traffic flow and reduce emissions.
  3. Green Transport Workforce Development: Supporting personnel training in low-emission and green transportation systems.

Additionally, discussions covered road safety initiatives, such as promoting helmet use for motorcyclists and transitioning to electric buses for public transport.

Governor Chadchart expressed gratitude for the UK Embassy’s continuous collaboration with Bangkok on urban development projects and reiterated the city’s commitment to future partnerships. The shared vision aims to make Bangkok a more livable city for all.

About Transit-Oriented Development (TOD)

TOD emphasizes urban and community development alongside transportation infrastructure. The approach focuses on maximizing land use around transit hubs to create vibrant, high-quality communities that encourage public transport usage and non-motorized travel. It supports sustainable living, business opportunities, and investments, enhancing both local and urban mobility.

From low-carbon transport to livable communities, Bangkok and the UK are building a city for everyone.
Bangkok partners with the UK to promote electric buses, safer roads, and transit-oriented development.
