Infection of COVID-19’s Indian variant was confirmed in the cluster of construction workers’ camp in Bangkok’s Laksi district.
Regarding the Indian variant confirmation at the construction workers’ camp of Italian-Thai Development Plc in Laksi, Deputy Prime Minister and Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said he had just been informed of the matter and was waiting for details.
He would discuss the issue with the directors-general of the Department of Disease Control and the Department of Medical Sciences and specialists on infectious diseases and virology.
The company must take better care of its workers, he said.
Mr Anutin also said that Prime Minister and Defence Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha told a meeting of the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) today that workers’ camps must be closely supervised, infected workers must be isolated, their camps must be sealed off and transport between camps and construction sites must be subject to a bubble-and-seal rule. Gen Prayut is also the director of CCSA.
CCSA spokesman Dr Taweesilp Visanuyothin earlier said many workers at the Laksi construction camp were confirmed with COVID-19 and 15 of them had the Indian variant also known as B1.1617.2. They were admitted to hospital and health workers were deployed to contain the disease there, he said. (TNA)
