BANGKOK, Thailand – Associate Professor Tawida Kamolvej, Deputy Governor of Bangkok, led an inspection of a factory fire at Soi Bang Kradi 32, Samae Dam Subdistrict, Bang Khun Thian District, on December 15. The fire, which engulfed a two-story concrete factory building, was successfully contained without spreading to nearby residential areas. No injuries or fatalities were reported.
The Deputy Governor instructed the Bang Khun Thian Environmental Division and the Hazardous Materials Response Unit (HAZMAT) from the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation to assess the environmental impact of the fire, which may pose health risks. Medical teams from the Department of Health provided advice on managing initial symptoms such as eye irritation or nasal discomfort, recommending rinsing with clean water and seeking assistance from mobile health units. Initial reports indicated no health issues among residents, but health officials have been directed to revisit the affected communities for further monitoring tomorrow.
Fire and rescue officials from Bang Khun Thian Fire Station identified the fire’s origin as machinery in the production line of a plastic packaging and printing factory, located at 28 Soi Samae Dam 17, Samae Dam Subdistrict, Bang Khun Thian District. The factory spans approximately 3.5 rai (about 5,600 square meters) and includes an office building and two production and storage facilities, all of which were completely damaged.
Initial investigations revealed that the factory operates under two valid health hazard licenses: one for printing operations (Category 13.8 (c)) and another for plastic product manufacturing (Category 12.6 (c)), both set to expire on July 21, 2025. The factory employs 214 workers. The fire was reported at approximately 1:45 PM.
