Homelessness, influenced by various factors, is a pressing issue in cities like Bangkok. Addressing this, government agencies organized the “Homeless Day” event to offer welfare guidance and create a platform for the homeless to voice their hopes and needs.
The event took place at the Shrine of Mae Thorani in Phra Nakhon district, coinciding with World Homeless Day on October 10th. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration highlighted the government’s dedication to ensuring a quality life and appropriate welfare for the homeless and the underprivileged. A key focus is on budget allocation, promoting decentralization to local governing bodies for greater citizen equality.
Attendees benefited from welfare rights booths and services like national ID card issuance, haircuts from the Central Women and Family Development Center in Nonthaburi, health check-ups, and recreational activities with prizes.
Considering the recent surge of around 1,000 homeless individuals in Bangkok and provinces like Chonburi and Chiang Mai due to COVID-19, agencies advocate for local governments to take a more proactive role. This transition, initiated in 2022, marks a significant step towards enhanced support for this vulnerable community. (NNT)
