The International Finance Cooperation (IFC) has granted the Green City Champion Award to the Governor of Bangkok, Chadchart Sittipunt, for his visionary leadership and extraordinary commitment towards initiating transformative climate action to ensure a better quality of life for the citizens of Bangkok.
In the past, there were five cities that received the award, including (1) Medellin City in Colombia, (2) Alexandria, Egypt, (3) Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, (4) Quezon, Philippines, and (5) Ekurhuleni, South Africa.
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has utilized IFC’s Advance Practices for Environmental Excellence in Cities (APEX) tool in making the green investment plan, targeting Bangkok as a Green City.
APEX consultant Kevin Tagnipez revealed the analysis found that Bangkok has the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 23% by 2030. (PRD)
