BANGKOK, Thailand – Bangkok has launched a series of major events as part of the Maha Songkran World Water Festival 2025, with Culture Minister Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol encouraging both the public and tourists to join in the traditional Thai New Year celebrations. On April 12, the minister presided over the “Songkran Ban Chan, Colors of Silom” event on Silom Road, where crowds gathered for cultural performances, parades, and community-based activities.
The Silom event is one of seven large-scale Songkran celebrations taking place across Bangkok this week. It includes traditional and modern performances, Muay Thai demonstrations, and a pride-themed parade. The schedule features daily stage shows and live concerts, culminating in the Miss Amazing Bangkok Queen Songkran contest on April 14. Visitors can also experience water-pouring rituals for elders and browse Thai crafts and regional delicacies.
Additional major events are being held at Wat Suthat Thepphawararam, CentralWorld, Fashion Island Mall, Siam Square, Samyan Mitrtown, and ICONSIAM. Each location offers a mix of entertainment, from classical dance and Khon drama to youth concerts, fashion shows, and DIY cultural workshops.
The Ministry of Culture expects the 2025 celebrations to attract a large turnout. Forecasts include 476,000 international tourist arrivals and more than 4.4 million domestic trips, generating around 26.5 billion baht in revenue. Officials see Songkran as a key opportunity to showcase Thai traditions while supporting tourism and local economies.
Minister Sudawan described Songkran as a festival of connection, gratitude, and cultural pride. With its mix of ancient rituals and modern festivities, the event continues to play a vital role in preserving Thailand’s heritage while offering visitors a unique and memorable experience. Full schedules and activity details are available on the Department of Cultural Promotion’s official platforms.
