BANGKOK, Thailand – Deputy Governor of Bangkok, Sanon Wangsrangboon, presided over the opening ceremony of the 50th Anniversary Exhibition of the Society for the Conservation of National Treasures and Environment (SCONTE) at the multipurpose hall on the 1st floor of the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, Pathumwan District on October 5.

Deputy Governor Sanon expressed his congratulations on SCONTE’s 50-year journey, acknowledging the society’s significant role as a strong representative of the public in advocating for urban conservation. He emphasized that sustainable city development requires active public participation since government policies may lack continuity due to election cycles. Sanon also encouraged the society to continue its invaluable work in partnership with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration to ensure a prosperous future for the city.

The 50th Anniversary Exhibition of SCONTE was organized to celebrate the society’s establishment on July 22, 1971. SCONTE has been a key player in preserving cultural heritage and environmental quality through knowledge sharing and collaboration with relevant stakeholders. The society also provides academic expertise in the fields of art and environmental conservation, coordinating efforts with public and civil society organizations.

The event’s highlight was a panel discussion titled “SCONTE 50+: Nature – Manmade: In Conflict or Sustainable?”, where veteran conservationists shared insights with the new generation of environmental advocates. The discussion focused on reflecting on the challenges of conservation and exploring sustainable solutions, aiming to inspire future policymakers and stewards of the environment.
