BANGKOK, Thailand – Governor Chadchart Sittipunt and Fukuoka Governor Seitaro Hattori signed a memorandum of intent to promote the “One Health” concept, emphasizing integrated health management for humans, animals, and the environment, November 20. The signing ceremony took place at the Rattanakosin Room, Bangkok City Hall, Giant Swing District, Phra Nakhon.
The collaboration highlights the importance of addressing interconnected health challenges, particularly zoonotic diseases like avian flu and SARS, and environmental impacts on living organisms. “One Health” stems from the recognition of cross-species disease transmission and the role of environmental change in epidemics, fostering international efforts involving the World Health Organization (WHO), the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).
Key Objectives of the Partnership
– Policy Development for Urban Sustainability: Exchange best practices to create policies and frameworks for sustainable health and environmental management in Bangkok.
– Experience and Knowledge Sharing: Foster collaboration through shared experiences in implementing One Health projects.
– Building Networks: Strengthen intercity networks for holistic health solutions that benefit urban residents and promote environmental harmony.
– Further Areas of Cooperation: Include human resource development and raising public awareness.
This initiative aims to position Bangkok as a model city for integrated urban health solutions and environmental sustainability, strengthening the partnership with Fukuoka while addressing public health challenges collaboratively.
