Bangkok plans mass vaccination drive for next 4 months

The government has set a goal of vaccinating all Bangkok residents who are at the highest risk of contracting COVID-19 in in the next four months.

The Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration’s (CCSA) assistant spokeswoman Apisamai Srirangson said the CCSA sub-committee will discuss details of the mass vaccination drive, across 50 districts, this week. About 60,000 people will be given the shots each day until the target is met. Bangkok has a population of around 7 million people.



She said COVID-19 control centers in Bangkok and surrounding provinces, directed by district chiefs, have been set up to respond rapidly to emergency situations, following the discovery of a cluster of infections in the densely packed slums of Khlong Toey district.

According to the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), 2,562 people were tested for COVID-19 in Khlong Toey yesterday with 154 of them, or 6%, confirmed as being infected. There are about 98,000 registered residents in Khlong Toey’s 39 communities. (NNT)
