BANGKOK, Thailand – Governor Chadchart Sittipunt inspected the drainage system along Rama IV Road in the Khlong Toei district. This area, which has experienced flooding in the past, is currently undergoing drainage improvements, including the installation of pipes through a pipe-jacking technique. Over 70% of the work is complete, and it is expected to be fully operational by April 30, just in time for the rainy season.
Governor Chadchart noted that during the construction, workers encountered obstacles such as blockages in pipes at Sukhumvit Soi 22 and 24, where large amounts of concrete debris were found. The Drainage Department is using specialized trucks to clear these blockages. Additionally, cleaning of drainage pipes across the city is about 30% complete. He also raised concerns about the potential impact of construction on the Orange and Pink MRT lines, which could affect existing drainage infrastructure.
Governor Chadchart emphasized the importance of ensuring readiness for the upcoming rainy season, which is expected to arrive earlier than usual. He urged citizens to report areas with unresolved drainage issues or unaddressed canals and pipes for further inspection. (BMA)
