BANGKOK, Thailand – Deputy Governor of Bangkok, , Associate Professor Tawida Kamolvej, on September 26, presided over the “I’m Taking Control of My Birth Control” event, organized in recognition of World Contraception Day. The event, held at the Creative Space, Siam Discovery Mall, aimed to promote awareness about preventing unplanned pregnancies among Thai youth. Dr. Ekachai Piansriwatchara, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Health, Ministry of Public Health, and Khun Karel Krautbosch, Managing Director of Organon Thailand, along with artists, actors, and other key stakeholders, participated in the event.

Deputy Governor Tawida emphasized that discussions around contraception should not be limited to health issues alone, as the subject is more complex. As a government entity with its own medical resources, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) aims to normalize conversations on contraception, encouraging youth to talk openly with their families, peers, and teachers. She stressed that society should respect young people’s decisions and refrain from stigmatizing those who choose to practice contraception according to medical guidelines. All sectors have a responsibility to support young people in making informed decisions, fostering an environment where they can grow and thrive.
