Residents of Or Ngoen Subdistrict struggle with sleepless nights as noisy fighting cocks disrupt their peace.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Officials from the Environmental Office visited Or Ngoen Subdistrict in Sai Mai District after residents filed noise complaints caused by their neighbor’s fighting cocks. One complainant revealed that his mother and grandmother have moved out of their home due to severe stress from the situation.

Mr. Nueng (a pseudonym), 34, contacted the “Sai Mai Must Survive” Facebook page, reporting the disturbances caused by his neighbor’s fighting cocks. He said the roosters crow loudly almost every day and at nearly all hours. The complainant explained that he originally lived in a townhouse, but since his elderly mother and grandmother required a quieter environment, he used his life savings to purchase a house in this neighborhood for 7.8 million baht.

When he first inspected the property in March 2022, there were no apparent issues. He signed the contract and moved into the house in August 2022. Initially, everything was fine. However, in November of the same year, his back neighbor began raising fighting cocks.

At first, the neighbor kept the roosters in the front yard, causing minimal disruption. Over time, the number of roosters increased, and the noise became unbearable. Mr. Nueng and several nearby households experienced similar issues, but his house was the most severely affected. The roosters occasionally flew into his yard, leaving droppings and constantly making noise.

The situation forced his mother and grandmother to move back to their old townhouse. Despite his repeated complaints to the housing project management, and attempts at negotiation, the neighbor only temporarily removed the roosters for one or two months before bringing them back.

The stress led Mr. Nueng to seek medical treatment and work remotely outside his home. At his lowest point, he considered buying a gun to shoot the roosters, his neighbor, and even himself. However, thoughts of his mother and grandmother stopped him from taking any drastic actions.

Authorities are investigating the matter. (TNA)
