BANGKOK, 7 November 2014 – The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) today signed a mutual agreement that will enhance tourism and cultural development in three major cities in the Lower-Mekong region.

The Governor of Bangkok M.R. Sukhumbhand Paribatra presided over the signing ceremony of the agreement on tourism and cultural development with the mayors and governors of Phnom Penh, Ho Chi Minh City, and Vientiane today at the Shangri-La hotel, Bangkok.

The Bangkok governor said that tourism is an important sector needing cooperation. It should be promoted and developed, especially the tourist routes within the Lower Mekong region.

He said that this year’s Lower Mekong Tourism Cities Mayors Summit had established the mutual agreement in practical tourism promotion such as the preservation of culture, the establishment of tourism standards for restaurants, accommodation, attractions, along with security maintenance for tourists, and the improvement of connectivity through transportation.

This mutual development will allow the linking cities to become more prominent tourist destinations, and provide accommodation to the ASEAN Community, the Bangkok governor said.

The 4th Lower Mekong Tourism Cities Mayors Summit next year, will be held in Cambodia’s capital city Phnom Penh, which will further strengthen the mutual development of tourism and culture in the Lower-Mekong region.
