Bangkok to host eco-friendly ‘Loy Krathong Festival’ Nov 15, bread krathongs pollute water

Governor Chadchart encourages residents to avoid using bread or food-based krathongs, which contribute to water pollution.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Governor Chadchart Sittipunt chaired the 12th Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) executive meeting of 2024 at Noppharat Room, City Hall, Phra Nakhon District on October 22. The governor emphasized the need for city officials to closely monitor ongoing construction projects that are impacting residents and ensure all departments continue working toward set targets.

The meeting also discussed preparations for the upcoming Loy Krathong Festival on Friday, November 15, 2024. The event will be held under the theme “Thai Loy Krathong: Safe and Eco-Conscious,” following the Ministry of Culture’s guidelines. Activities will take place along the Khlong Khu Mueang Derm (Khlong Lod) in Phra Nakhon District. The BMA’s Culture, Sports, and Tourism Department will organize eco-friendly Loy Krathong activities, traditional Thai cultural performances, photo spots, and a community product market featuring vendors from 50 districts across the city.

Additionally, the AEON-presented “Eco – Lights of Tradition” Digital Loy Krathong Festival will be held at Lan Khon Mueang, City Hall, from 5:00 PM to 11:30 PM on November 15. This event will feature creative, eco-friendly activities, including projector mapping on City Hall, digital krathong floating, a Noppamas kid contest, cosplay competitions, and food stalls.



Governor Chadchart encouraged residents to avoid using bread or food-based krathongs, which contribute to water pollution. Several BMA departments, including the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department, Traffic and Transport Department, and Environmental Department, will implement safety measures during the festival to ensure the well-being of participants.

The event will be held under the theme “Thai Loy Krathong: Safe and Eco-Conscious,” following the Ministry of Culture’s guidelines.



Activities will take place along the Khlong Khu Mueang Derm (Khlong Lod) in Phra Nakhon District.
