Bangkok’s TK Park is set to host the second film of its 2024 Contemporary World Film Series, featuring the Nigerian movie “Lion heart,” on Saturday, July 27th at 4 p.m. The screening, supported by the Embassy of Nigeria, celebrates the country’s film sector, known as Nollywood, which ranks among the top three globally.
Directed by Genevieve Nnaji, who also stars in the film, “Lionheart” tells the story of a woman who steps up to manage her father’s transport business after he falls ill. The film explores her struggles within a male-dominated industry and the generational conflicts she faces, highlighting the resilience and complexities of African womanhood.
The film, which has garnered attention at the Toronto International Film Festival and was Nigeria’s submission for the Oscars, is praised for its authentic portrayal of Nigerian life, language, and culture, alongside an ensemble cast of top Nigerian actors.
The event will also feature a reception with snacks and drinks hosted by the Embassy of Nigeria, with Mohammed Haidara, the Charge D’ Affaires of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, set to introduce the film. The screening offers a unique glimpse into Nigerian cinema and its contributions to the global film landscape.
