PHUKET, 25 April 2014 — The famous Bangtao beach on Phuket Island is once again plagued with polluted sea water that causes skin rashes and infections.

Both foreign and Thai tourists are refusing to get in the water at Bangtao Beach. Instead some went to Layan beach to swim.

Early in April, Bangtao was first hit with contaminated water which also caused skin rashes and infections among tourists, and others who went anywhere near the water, including fishermen.

The Cherng Talay Local Administrative Office has set aside 320 million baht to construct a water treatment plant to solve the problem. It has warned hotels and other businesses in the area of a maximum penalty, if they are found to be dumping polluted water into Bangtao canal which flows through to the beach front.
