YASOTHORN – Bean growers in Yasothorn province have signed a purchasing deal with bean manufacturers to guarantee their income.
According to Yasothorn Governor Boontham Lertsukheekasem, the deal will raise the confidence of bean growers, as business operators are bound by a minimum buying price of 22 baht per kilogram.
However, bean supplies in the province currently fall 30% short of demand. They have to be imported from other provinces to meet the growing market.
Rice farmers have been encouraged to grow beans instead of rice to conserve water. Beans are also known to grow well in dry conditions.
