YALA – After the success of the Kao Kon La Kao charity run, in which rocker Toon Bodyslam ran 2,191 kilometers from Betong to Mae Sai, a local sculptor has fashioned a life-size statue of the rock star to be placed at the run’s starting point for this New Year holidays.
The plaster sculpture of music artist Artiwara Kongmalai, known as Toon Bodyslam, was designed based on his physical action while running. It was made by a 62-year-old local sculptor Kuson Chaiyakit, who lives in Betong, Yala.
He said he will always remember the time when the singer ran past his house, and that he has great respect for him for his noble efforts to raise funds for hospitals in need.
This sculpture was funded by the Khon Rak Kan Lae Kan association, who wish to promote tourism in Betong district. They say the Kao Kon La Kao campaign has gained approval from Thai people and the world, with its starting point located in Yala province.
Toon Bodyslam’s sculpture will be placed at the starting point of Kao Kon La Kao run, in front of Betong Mongkollit Tunnel, in time for the New Year holidays.
