Thai and Myanmar nationals can now visit each other without having to apply for a visa, with the maximum stay allowance currently at 14 days. While this new regulation will become effective 11 August 2015.

The MFA Deputy Permanent Secretary has said that Thai-Myanmar relations are now very good, evident from the opening of the Consulate-General of Myanmar in Chiang Mai province, Thailand on 29 May 2015.

The Myanmar Consulate-General will help facilitate travelers from the third nations who wish to visit Myanmar, to apply for their visa in Chiang Mai. The MFA Deputy Permanent Secretary said this will help boost tourism in ASEAN, where Thailand’s location is key for the region’s connectivity.
